Older coins and inherited silver
A lot of what we are asked to look at in the north of the county was saved by an earlier generation. It tends to fall into a few groups.
Coins that went out of circulation
Silver change pulled from pockets before 1965, Buffalo nickels, wheat cents by the roll. Most is common, a few dates are not, and we will point out which is which.
Silver dollars by the dozen
Morgans and Peace dollars were a favorite way to save. A jar of them deserves to be looked at coin by coin, not just weighed.
A drawer of gold jewelry
Rings, watch chains and brooches that belonged to someone in the family. Gold is tested for karat and weighed in front of you, and you can keep any piece that matters too much to sell.
About the photo ID
Texas requires dealers who buy crafted precious metal, such as gold jewelry, to register with the state and keep a record of each seller, which is one reason we ask for a photo ID.
We ask every seller for ID, whatever they bring, so please have a driver license or similar on hand. It takes a minute, and then we get on with looking at your things.

What Sanger sellers bring out
Five groups we see often. Each card leads to a page with more about it.
-
Morgan and Peace dollars
The big silver dollars minted from 1878 to 1935. Mint marks and condition matter, so we check each date with you rather than lumping them together.
-
Old circulated silver
Mercury dimes, Washington quarters and Franklin or Walking Liberty halves from 1964 and earlier, whether loose, rolled or in a sock.
-
Silver bars and rounds
Poured bars and minted rounds a relative bought as savings. Keep any stamped weight or purity marks clean and visible, and bring the receipt if it turns up.
-
Key dates and odd coins
A worn Indian cent that might be scarce, a doubled date, a coin that looks wrong. We will tell you plainly if it is special or ordinary.
-
Gold from the family
Pre-1933 U.S. gold, modern bullion coins and old jewelry. Everything gold is tested and weighed as you watch.
If the coins came to you through a will, our guide for heirs covers the first steps, and the collection page explains how we handle a large lot.
Sanger questions
Is there an office in Sanger?
No. We are based in Denton, south of Sanger down I-35, and our office there is private. We share the address by phone once an appointment is set. Sanger sellers can also ask us to visit them at home or at their bank.
Will you look at a mixed box, or only certain coins?
Bring the whole box. Coins, silver bars, gold rings and the odd token can all be gone through in one appointment, and we will tell you which parts we would buy and which are better kept.
My grandmother kept silver dollars in a jar. Should I sort them first?
Please do not. Leave them in the jar and avoid rubbing or washing them. We would rather see them exactly as she kept them, and sort them with you.
